What to do in Dublin? Essentials, nice to go and freebies

What to do in Dublin? Essentials, nice to go and freebies

Even though Dublin is not the biggest European cities, there are so many things, to see, do, taste that one may not have enough resource to see it all, therefore we decided to divide in the absolute essentials which are the popular and the key pots to the ones that you still go if you have the chance but not the end of the world if missed.

The ABSOLUTE Essentials:

  • Temple Bar: Yeah, I know what you’re thinking – tourist trap! But trust me, you cannot visit Dublin and not wander through Temple Bar. You don't need to splurge on a pint (though it might be tempting); just soak up the vibes, street performances, and the pure Dublin atmosphere.
  • Trinity College & The Book of Ke lls: Get your inner geek on and gawk at Ireland's oldest university. And while you're there, peek at the Book of Kells - a beautifully decorated manuscript that's over 1,200 years old!
  • St. Stephen’s Green: For the romantics and picnickers! A beautiful park in the heart of the city. Grab a sandwich, sit back, relax, and watch the ducks.
  • Dublin Castle: Steeped in history, this spot offers a slice of Dublin's past. While tours can cost, just wandering the grounds can give you some awesome insights.

The "Super Cool But Not The End of The World if Missed"

  • The Little Museum of Dublin: It's little, it's cute, a nd it's packed with stories about Dublin in the 20th century. But if you're not a museum buff, you can totally skip it.
  • Guinness Storehouse: For beer enthusiasts (who may also be interested in this blog here)! It’s kind of pricey, but if you've got a few extra euros to spare, the view from the Gravity Bar is EPIC!
  • Jameson Distillery: Irish whiskey, any one? Again, only if you're really into spirits (no, not the ghostly kind) and have some spare change.
  • The Leprechaun Museum: It's quirky, it's fun , and yes, it's all about leprechauns. But it's not for everyone, and your Dublin experience will be just as magical without it.

Freebies (because we all love free stuff):

  • Dublin's Street Art: Wander around and discover the vibrant street art. The city's walls tell tales if you're keen to listen.
  • Free Walking Tours: Usually run by local students or enthusiasts, these are a fantastic way to see the city. Just be kind and tip if you can!

‏‏‎ ‎

  • National Gallery of Ireland, Hugh Lane Gallery & Irish Museum of Modern Art : Art lovers rejoice! It's free to enter and packed with some amazing pieces.
  • The Chester Beatty Library: Free and absolutely fascinating, especially if you’re into diverse art and manuscripts.
  • National Museum of Ireland: Find out more about the history of Ireland and it's place in the world. This Museum is devided in 4 museums located in different parts of the city: Decorative Arts & History, Country Life, Natural History and Archaeology. Get cultured while having fun!

Local Tips to Save Some Green
  • Food: Skip the touristy spots. Try local eateries or markets. The Moore Street Market is a gem!
  • Travel: Ditch taxis. Dublin is best explored on foot or by hopping on a bus.
  • Accommodation: Hostels or Airbnb are your friends.
